The Importance of Passion in Business — and Life
How did Julie Aigner-Clark, a stay-at-home mom and former
English teacher, become the country’s most famous ‘mompreneur?’
She followed her passions, dreamed big and listened to her
intuition. In her presentation, Julie discusses how she
relied on gut instincts and common sense to create products
that were right for her own children, and in the process
established what has become a billion-dollar industry. Her
personal philosophy, ‘Every wall is a door,’ allowed Julie
to overcome the challenges brought on by inexperience,
market competition and personal crisis, and to understand
the value of both business and personal success.
About Julie
Julie represents what all entrepreneurs strive to be: she
built what she loved from the ground up and filled a void in
the marketplace to answer a need that was her own. She cared
about her product, and never forgot the importance of
customer service. She made babies smile while generating
over $25 million in sales – with only eight
employees. And she did it from home before electing to sell
Baby Einstein to Disney.
Julie inspires audiences to follow their dreams and to
believe in themselves despite the odds. The first in her
family to graduate from college, Julie left teaching to stay
home and raise her daughters. She had no intention of
starting a business when she filmed Baby Einstein in her
basement – she was simply looking for a way to share her
love of the arts with her own babies. Recognizing that the
aspirations she had for her children were shared by other
parents, Julie sold small retailers on the idea of
‘humanities for babies,’ and Baby Einstein was born. Her
story of tenacity, unique marketing and smart brand strategy
is compelling and rich.
Experience
Julie has produced ten videos for Baby Einstein, and has
written over thirty children’s books. She is also the
founder of The Safe Side, a company dedicated to educating
young children about personal safety. Julie occasionally
consults with business start-ups, and continues to teach
middle school English, part-time. She is a breast cancer
survivor, wife and full-time mother. Most recently, Julie
was recognized at the 2007 State of the Union Address by
President Bush.
